3D Solar System Explorer

Watch the planets orbit in 3D, then click 'View Alien Sky' on any planet to see its sky, your weight there, your age in its years, and a gravity drop-test.

  1. Click a planet name, or click a planet in the 3D view
  2. Drag to rotate, scroll to zoom, adjust orbit speed
  3. Click 'View Alien Sky' for a full planet deep-dive

Runs entirely in your browser.

Earth
Radius
6,371 km
Distance from Sun
149.6 million km
Orbital period
1.0 years
Known moons
1

The only known planet with liquid water on its surface and confirmed life.

Distances and sizes are compressed for visibility, not to true scale — the real solar system is far too vast to render proportionally on one screen. Orbital speeds are relatively accurate (outer planets move slower). Runs entirely in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate are the planet models and orbits?
Relative sizes, orbital distances and rotation are scaled to be visually informative rather than perfectly to-scale (a true-scale model would make most planets invisible dots), but weight, day length and orbital period figures shown on each planet page use real astronomical data.
What does "View Alien Sky" show?
A deep-dive on the surface of the selected planet — its sky and atmosphere colour, your body weight there based on its surface gravity, your age converted into that planet's years, and a simple gravity drop-test animation.
Why do all 9 planets appear if there are only 8 in the solar system?
Pluto is included alongside the 8 official planets since it remains a well-known part of how most people picture the solar system, even though the IAU reclassified it as a dwarf planet in 2006.
Does it work on mobile, and does it need an internet connection to render?
It works on modern mobile browsers with drag-to-rotate and pinch-to-zoom, though a larger screen makes the 3D view easier to navigate. Everything renders locally once the page loads — no ongoing connection is required.
Do I need to install anything or sign up?
No. It runs entirely in your browser using WebGL — no software install, no account, no email required.
