Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between lossy and lossless compression?
Lossy compression discards some image data to get much smaller file sizes — usually not visible to the eye at moderate settings, but technically not identical to the original. Lossless compression only strips redundant data, so the image is pixel-for-pixel unchanged, at the cost of a smaller size reduction.
Which image formats can I compress?
PNG, JPG/JPEG, WebP, AVIF and GIF are all supported — upload any mix of these and each is compressed with settings appropriate to its format.
Will compressing reduce image quality?
At the default quality slider setting, the difference is generally invisible to the eye. Push the slider lower for smaller files at a visible quality cost — you can compare the before/after size and preview before downloading.
Can I compress multiple images at once?
Yes, batch upload up to the tool’s file limit and each image is compressed individually, with its own before/after size shown.
Does compressing an image strip its metadata (EXIF, GPS location, etc.)?
Compression focuses on pixel data; some metadata may be stripped as a side effect of re-encoding, which is generally desirable for images you’re about to publish online (it removes camera/location details you likely don’t want to share).
